They contacted me to rectify the website issues. On closer inspection of the theme that the previous website agency had produced for them it was clear from the outset that it had been developed by someone who had very little experience in building a WordPress theme. There were glaring mistakes such as including another version of jQuery, a javascript framework used for interactive elements. WordPress loads it's own version of jQuery by default - including another version on top of this resulted in causing most of the issues such as carousel / sliders not working, the popout contact form etc. None of the CSS stylesheets of two javascript libraries were being loaded correctly within WordPress and there were coding issues with some custom jQuery the developers had written effectively making it redundant. Most of the plugins and WordPress core hadn't been updated and the previous developers had modified the core files of some of the jQuery scripts that are in use, making updating those extremely difficult. The SEO plugin they had used had no sitemap functionality. They had a company build them their website, specifically they had some custom modifications to Woocommerce - a wizard style product where users can create a custom blend tea. The developers had used a jQuery plugin called jquery-steps, which hadn't been updated in over 5 years, to create the wizard along with some of their own custom javascript. The setup was a little odd - they had a single 'dummy' product over which they inserted this jquery wizard plugin on a custom page template. The plugin seems to work with sessions to store data along it's steps, and at the end they hooked into Woocommerce to add the product to the cart. There was a backend interface for the client to add/remove product variations - a bit like Advanced Custom Fields - but custom programmed (why? ! ). Aside from the peculiar way the devs had gone about this project, they had actually left the client with a half finished job. No metadata from the jquery steps plugin was being populated into Woocommerce orders by their hooks. My client explained her frustration in being able to find someone that would be able to help her. Enable Access had lost faith in their current web developer due to site issues ranging from slow front and back-end load speeds, ineffective methods of updating content and slow response from their current developer. On inspection of the site and the plugins deployed it was clear what the original developers wanted to achieve, but they couldn't do this due to their use of Avada. In addition there was a large amount of unnecessary plugins - active and inactive - performing unnecessary functions. The developers were probably aiming to introduce a Custom Post Type into the website, probably products, which would then allow them to display products in an effective manner. They are always looking for ways to increase donations to the branch and with my experience in affiliate marketing I suggested they serve banner ads for a relevant advertiser. I belong to a few affiliate networks and Affiliate Window (AW) already had some pet supplies companies on-board. I picked Monster Pet Supplies for their nice commission, 30-day cookie and the fact that they supply Waitrose with Pet products. Unfortunately their creative selection was a bit lacking, in terms of target audience, they all targeted dog owners. So I set to with the GIMP to create some new banners which are more relevant for South Beds RSPCA audience - predominately cats, rabbits and guinea pigs. A few hours later and I had a range of in-content squares, 468x60 and half banners for use on the site, a few days later they made their first commission from a click. To expand on this monetisation I plan to pull the AW XML product feed to create more opportunities for commissions by placing product links selectively and more creatively. They already had a website which was established in 2002 and had undergone a few redesigns over the years but it needed to be updated to take advantage of responsive web design techniques. It's a popular site with about 3,000 visitors/month. The old website also had no way for the stakeholders to update content on the website themselves. This meant information was frequently out-of-date, there was however a rudimentary method for updating the animals that were available for adoption. The redesign and transfer into WordPress took around 2 weeks to complete. There wasn't a particularly large amount of content to transfer across but it did need need restructuring to make this information easier to locate. A Custom Post Type was built to facilitate the adding and categorisation of new animals for adoption. New image sizes were added to automatically create a range of images for use in the template when an image is uploaded through the WordPress media library. A custom function was built onto the GravityForms plugin pre_render hook to make their adoption enquiry form more intuitive by dynamically replacing checkboxes with animal images. This project is an ongoing one, as part of my volunteering role as a cat fosterer for the branch. Adding a database of recipes that could be made from the base spirit left over in each kit is a good value added feature. A custom post type was created for the recipe database with three custom taxonomies to sort the recipes. Relevant templates were added to a child theme to cater for the new post type and taxonomies. The search was also customised to only search through the recipes whilst leaving the default search intact. Advanced Custom Fields was used to build a relationship between recipes and products which displayed on each kit product page in WooCommerce. Shortly after launch it was featured in a Daily Mail on-line article and received around 3,000 visitors in one day. The website was a finalist in the 2016 HEE Awards for innovation in the NHS. The website is in essence a large multi-page form that asks the user a series of questions. The client required that on submitting the form the site created a PDF document that was tailored toward the user based on the responses in the form. An initial working mockup of the site was created to present to the client to show how the mechanism might work.
